Could cannabis help get the economy back on track?
July 13th, 2010 | by admin |We would benefit from an explosion in the hemp production. That would create many jobs in the fields and hemp factories. Our dependence on textile imports form overseas would be diminished, we would stop wasting resources on arresting, trying and jailing the 800,000+ people who are arrested for marijuana each year.
Could decriminalizing marijuana aid in getting our economy back no track and allowing our politicians to focus on more pressing issues at hand?
Thanks.
Of course it would.

Hmmm, how would it create a bunch of jobs when no one is spending money to purchase goods right now? Do you expect all these new employees to work for free?

kate.. tho people may not be spending money on ‘goods’ people are still buying things like cigarettes. LOTS of people are buying cannabis, but its not recorded in any ‘national sales’ book or anything like that. but overall i think it would help the economy immensely. the dealers may be a bit upset tho, haha

Cannabis could be used for many this such as clothed, food, getting high etc but the problem is that if marijuana is legalized the tabacco companies would lose millions because all the current smokers would switch to weed. I personally think it would be a great idea for it to be legalized because all the food that the u.s wastes would go to a good cause

No. Not everyone will use it if they have a choice. Drilling for more of our own oil would, building smaller and cheaper homes would, increasing the military budget would, reducing the tax burden would.
Legalizing pot would only cause more traffic accidents and kill thousands over time. We don’t use that much fiber rope any more and we have plenty of synthetic fibers that last longer than any natural ones and hold color better too.

First, hemp in textiles is at best a dream. It would replace very little in the market and even if available, China can still do it cheaper. No help there. Hemp is not a textile plus for the USA.
Also, if you haven’t heard pot is now classified as a carcinogen in California. So, it is now on the same level as tobacco. So the FDA, just like tobacco, is going to severely limit it.
Lastly, there is a danger when people use pot. Yes, alcohol and driving is bad, but alcohol AND pot, would be worse. Yes, you would collect taxes, but FDA would start dictating low THC levels. Who would want to smoke that? And how much are human lives worth when you start getting smoking and driving deaths. If legal, people are not just going to smoke it at home.
