February 19th, 2010 | by admin |

are there protein supplements like protein shakes and stuff, only in pill form? im NOT a body builder or anything, but i AM a vegitarian, i dont eat any kind of meat and almost no meat products, very very little dairy, no fish or anything like that, no eggs really, ill eat things with eggs in them, but im also planning on going vegan, so ill need the suplements eather way. i use a hemp protein powder, its vanila flavor, and it makes me gag….i would waaay prefur eather a COMPLEATLY TASTELESS powder, or even better, a pill

thanks in advanced :)
well thats the problem, i dont eat alot of beans/eggs/penutbutter/tofu, and i just dont eat much at all really, mostly some fruit and a few vegis cooked up nice :P

You don’t need protein supplements. For you to develop any kind of protein deficiency, you would need to either starve yourself to the point where you’re becoming emaciated or you would have to become bulimic. Don’t listen to the myths and lies about protein fed to you by the meat and dairy industry. You’re more likely to get too much protein than too little. Even if you don’t ingest any protein your body will make its own, kind of like cholesterol.

You don’t need protein powders or pills. Dear Gaia, what is this obsession with protein? Unless you’re starving yourself or eating junk food, you’re getting enough protein. Eat a varied diet, and you should be fine. Nuts and beans are great sources of protein, and a lot easier to eat than supplements.

I’m sure some quack is putting out "protein pills" I’d suggest you look at these websites before investing in any.

This website, run by the Mayo Clinic, has a copy of the vegetarian food pyramid on it. Use it when planing your meals.

You’re not supposed to take protein powder by itself. Mix it up in a fruit smoothie. Take one banana, 1/2 – 1 cup (depending on what consistency you like) of soy, rice, hemp or almond milk and then add 1/2 cup of frozen fruit (blueberries and strawberries are really good) and blend it all up in a blender with your protein powder. It’s a great, quick breakfast.
