What should I put in my morning pre-workout smoothie?
March 5th, 2010 | by admin |I wanna start working out in the mornings and my plan is to have a smoothie about 1 hour before I head off to the gym. What should I put in it that will give me lots of calories? So far I’m thinking something like… spinach, 3 bananas, hemp protein powder, strawberries… My diet is mostly raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Any other ideas for calories?
I do this,
Yogurt 1/2 cup (plain or Vanilla or whatever I have on hand)
Vanilla 2 tsp.
1/2 a large Banana
3 Pinapple rings from a can
Whey Protein 1 Scoop
1 cup of frozen strawberries.
This can be modified to suit your needs, I sometimes add oranges and blueberries. Also Raspberries are great, Play with various combos and see what you like best!
If you have a vitamix, like I do you can throw in nuts like almonds if you want, It grinds them into nothing. I wouldn’t do this unless you have a utility grade blender.

i personally like strawberries and milk. or strawberries and ice cream o boy is that good it’s like a strawberry shake from mcdonalds. throw a couple bananas in there and that would be really good. now i like spinach but bless your soul that you would actually mix spinach with fruits.

The one that I make that’s really good has:
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
1 cup 2% milk
Ice
One banana (better when the peel still has some green)
Strawberries
Pineapple
I actually use a magic bullet and it comes out great…it’s like getting a tropical drink from orange julius, etc. I have noticed that it doesn’t taste as good if the bananas are soft.
Another one that I’ve done that’s simple and tasty:
1 cup 2% milk (tastes much better/richer than water in any shake)
1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
ice
Blend and it tastes like a chocolate shake

What I do for mine is I fill the blender halfway with milk, then I add strawberries, 1 banana, yogurt, and ice to make it nice and cool. Sometimes I like to get creative and I add oranges, peaches, apples and whatever other fruit that I have around. Sometimes I would add some tomatoes just because I want to get some vegetables in there as well if you add the right amount which is half a tomato or less then you wont taste it at all, but it depends on what you like. Be warmed that at first some of these smoothies can taste a little bad when combining new things, but once you learn how much of each to put in you might be able to find the right taste that you like.
