What should I make with my hemp seeds?

December 26th, 2009 | by admin |

I just bought my first bag of hemp seeds because I’ve been reading about how great they are for you. Plus I’m always looking for ways to get more protein into my diet. (strict vegetarian)

Looking for any recipes! Maybe a homemade protein bar? breakfast foods? dinner? snacks? Gimme what you got

I grind them in to flour to use in my breadmaker, in pancakes, even smoothies, whole they can be used in granola, batters, in salad dressing, I have used hemp oil but it is strong like sesame oil.

They can be used the same way that sesame and poppy seed are, they have a nuttier flavour, but 4X the iron and potassium that a banana, but they can be bitter if not treated right.

you can add it to your choice of cereal. or in some granola. you can always toast some in a skillet and add it rice or barley. it would go great in some sushi rolls.

    Protein bar:
    sunflower seeds
    pumpkin seeds
    hemp seeds
    chopped almonds
    chopped pecans
    chopped cashews
    molasses
    honey
    vanilla beans/vanilla extract
citrus zest (the outermost colored part of the peel on a citrus fruit)

prepare a sheet pan with bakers paper covering the bottom.
add molasses and honey into a pot. heat on med until it simmers and remove from heat. stir in the citrus zest and vanilla. add seeds and nuts. stir well to coat all the nuts. pour the mixture on the sheet pan and spread it out evenly to your preferred thickness. cover with plastic wrap. allow the mixture to cool in the refrigerator for about 40 minutes or until it is fully set. then cut them into shapes of your liking. store in an air tight container. enjoy
